Sayyid Mufti Najm al-Hasan Amrohawi (student of Mufti Wali Hasan Tonki), head of Darul Iftaa at Darul ‘Ulum Yasin al-Qur’an (Karachi) and a contemporary Deobandi Mufti, writes in his collection of fatawa (Najm al-Fatawa):
He then quotes al-Muhannad, which quotes the verdict of Ibn ‘Abidin on the “followers of (Ibn) ‘Abd al-Wahhab”. Since Ibn ‘Abidin describes the “followers of (Ibn) ‘Abd al-Wahhab” as having “forcefully taken the two Harams” and being Khawarij, but not Ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab himself, Mufti Najm al-Hasan Amrohawi advises caution in describing Ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab himself as a Khariji.
