Reciting the Takbir when completing the last few Surahs of the Quran QuestionIs there any virtue mentioned in Hadith for reciting the takbir from Surah Duha to Surah Nas when one is completing a recital of the Qur'an? AnswerImam Hakim and others have reported that when Sayyiduna Ubay ibn Ka’b (radiyallahu radiyallahu’anhu) recited the Qur'an to Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam), he was instructed to recite the takbir with every surah, from Surah Duha till the end of the Qur'an. (Mustadrak Hakim, vol.3 pg.304, Shu’abul Iman, hadith: 1912-1914, Al-Irshad lil Khalili, pg.108) The authenticity of this Hadith is challenged by some eminent Imams of Hadith, however it has indeed been declared authentic ( sahih) by other Muhaddithun. Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has strongly supported this Hadith. Imam Shafi’i (rahimahullah) has also labelled this practice as a sunnah. (Refer: Shu’abul Iman, before hadith: 1912, Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah Duha, Al-Itqan, vol.1 pg.145-146, Fatawa Hadithiyyah of Ibn Hajar Al-Haytami, pg.224 & Hasrush Sharid, vol.2 pg.644-648) And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
