Salam,
Shahab: Some of the leading scientists involved in Intelligent Design (ID) are atheists or agnostics, such as David Berlinski (http://davidberlinski.org/). Any atheists or anti-evolutionists should deal with their arguments, rather than engage in ad hominem.
Mufti Zameel: There are other Islamic evidences that indicate clearly that humans did not evolve from non humans. They are: 1) The sahih hadiths (such as in Muslim) which indicate that Adam was 60 cubits tall in heaven. Per evolutionists, humans were never this tall, and the ape like ancestors were never this tall. If Adam was 60 cubits tall, he couldn't have descended from an ape-like creature which is only a few cubits tall. Thus Adam had no parent.
2) Evolutionists agree that a population cannot emerge from a population of two individuals. Thus if "Muslims" follow the evolutionary theory, they would need to say that Adam and Eve weren't the only people alive, and that there were many other humans at the same time as them. They would probably need to say that Adam and Eve were only fiction, like the Christian evolutionists say.
3) The sahih hadiths and the Quran indicates that Eve was created from Adam. However evolutionary theory rejects this.

Salam ahmed:
Thanks for referencing David Berlinski. Although he identifies himself as a "Secular Jew" and is also a member of the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture, which is the parent organization of the "Intelligent Design" Movement.
It might be a good idea to show from the research of proper Atheists how they themselves submit that Darwinism has many missing links.
Jazak Allah!

Al-Salam 'Alaykum.
I apologise to interrupt the much needed discussion, but there is another aspect which also needs looking into. That is, what would the hukm be of those Muslims who believe in human evolution: are they Muslim or do they exit the fold of Islam for holding such beliefs? Similarly, what would be the hukm of those who believe in full Darwinian evolution (including macro-evolution and the concept of having a universally common descent) with the exception of humanity, as that is a religious miracle?
While studying, I had a discussion with some of my senior teachers where I brought up this topic. We all agreed that it seems under no circumstance can someone adhering to such beliefs can remain a Muslim. This discussion took place just before so many Muslims opened up about their beliefs. Now that so many (albeit still few in ratio to the majority) are holding such opinions, do we do ta'wil somehow and keep them Muslim, or do they fall under rejecting Qur'an and Hadith, thus exiting Islam?
