The prostrations of forgetfulness, with regards to when they are done in salaah, differ among the madhaahib.
In my humble understanding, it appears that in the hanafi madhhab of fiqh, the correct way of doing this is:
Pray salaah until the end
Do tasleem to the right only
Say takbeer and do the sujood (x2)
Pray the tashahhud onwards again
Do tasleem both sides to complete the salaah.
In my humble attempts to learn about this, I have come across explanations that this position is a reconciliation of the following ahadeeth and others like them:

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَىِ السَّهْوِ بَعْدَ السَّلاَمِ وَالْكَلاَمِ

As such, Imam ibn al-Humam says in Fath al-Qadeer:
باب سجود السهو
( يسجد للسهو في الزيادة والنقصان سجدتين بعد السلام ثم يتشهد ثم يسلم ) وعند الشافعي يسجد قبل السلام لما روي { أنه عليه الصلاة والسلام سجد للسهو قبل السلام } ولنا قوله عليه الصلاة والسلام { لكل سهو سجدتان بعد السلام } وروي أنه عليه الصلاة والسلام { سجد سجدتي السهو بعد السلام }
So my question is, do we also have evidence of this being the method from Sahaabah and the following generations?
